Last Day in the Land of Love and Pet Hair

Tomorrow I'll be heading back to Madison to stay. On Monday I'll be starting school. It has come too fast....of course, my whole schedule is off because its summer and everything that has happened. I will hopefully have some money in my account from financial aid, 'cause I'm going to need it. I hope to be able to save up for my trip next summer...I really wanna go still and I get along great with the professor. Hopefully I'll be able to see my family this weekend so I can say good-bye to Aunt Sharon, who's heading back to New Zealand on Sunday.

Well, I suppose I should get some packing or something done.

Somebody's Out there Watching

Yesterday I got moved into to Merit House. The room had just been cleaned (the smell of cleaner was overpowering at first), needs to have the cable fixed, and something about the heat is leaking, so I couldn't move in my bed. Grrr....good thing I wasn't going to live there this week, 'cause I'd be miserable. I'll be moving in Friday or Saturday...we really haven't discussed it yet.

After moving, Moogie and I headed back to Dodgeville for a nap. We then went to Darlington to help with Thank Yous....so many of them! Many people really cared...a lot of support from so many! The kindness that had poured out from the community (and surrounding counties) made it worth the hundred + thank yous we hand wrote. Yeah, my hand is still a little sore, and when I woke up this morning my hand was in writing position, ready to go. We were very close to finishing, but we went to the Darlington High School Concert which was dedicated to Mike. It was really nice...and Sarah was completely in trouble because Mom remembered her camera. Hehehehehehe.... We saw Sarah get her awards for lettering, Solo and Ensamble, and Flag Corps. We hung around a while longer than most....it's really nice to spend so much time with my family. It means a lot to me. I wouldn't miss it for anything.

On the way home it was raining pretty hard. When we were going down the hill entering Mineral Point the front end of the car started to shake. For a few heart-pounding seconds, I was really worried. Someone upstairs must've been watching, 'cause we didn't have any problems after that.

It's good to know someone's looking out for us. And I know who too.

You Were Loved

Yesterday, Mike was laid to rest in the Holy Rosary Cemetary. His funeral was lovely. So many people showed up that they had to bring out even more chairs...and they had already doubled the seating before that. Then we had such a caravan to the cemetary that we couldn't see the end on this one stretch of road but we could see at least twenty cars...and we weren't even at the begining! It was a beautiful day to go out there. Sun shining, a little windy (the flowers kept getting knocked over), but a beautiful day. I think Mike had a hand in that. Then we went to the church for a luncheon (or supper since it was after 4:30PM). We stayed there until after seven, then we took Aunt Sharon back to Grandpa's. Aunt Sharon wanted to see the crash site, so we headed out there. Although we were several days late, there were still a couple of skid marks and a lot of glass. And a spot of grass that was pressed down....where Mikey....

The wake was also huge. Lots of high schoolers and family. And the flowers! I think the flower shop ran out of flowers and plants, because they were all there. And there were a lot of pictures...surprising 'cause Mike didn't like his picture taken. And there were his Cross Country gear, his John Deere tractor, a Kirk (from Star Trek) figurine, a pool cue, his trombone....and so much more. And dirty jokes...I know Mike would've loved that. So much was there that proved that he was alive, and then he was there. His face had been reconstructed. He was inch-deep in make-up. His hands were bruised. He didn't look like the ear-to-ear grin Mike I'd known all of my life. And yet, it was him.

You know, we've been pushing so hard this past weekend, with moving in the mornings from Madison to being with the family in the afternoon that it really hasn't processed. Yesterday, I still expected him to show up at Memorial Day. Today, I really wish he would be there. I guess he will be, but just not physically. Who would miss a party like ours??

We all make a place in this world
We want our voices to be heard
Everyone wants the chance to be someone
We all have dreams we need to dream
Sweeter than any star you can reach
'cause when you reach and find you've found someone

You'll hold this world's most priceless thing
The greatest gift this life can bring
'cause when you look back and know you were loved

You are loved by someone
Touched by someone
Held by someone
Mean't something to someone
Loved somebody
Touched somebody's heart along the way
You can look back and say
You were loved

You can have diamonds in your hand
Have all the riches in the land
But, without love, you don't really have a thing (no, no)
Will somebody care that you're alive
Will somebody trust you with their life
That's when you'll know (heh)
That you have all you need

You'll hold this world's most priceless gift
The finest treasure that there is
'cause you can look back and know you are loved, oh

Hook

So many roads that you can take
Whatever way you go, don't take that road alone
It's better you should know you are

You are loved by someone
Touched by someone
Held by someone
Mean't something to someone
Loved somebody
Touched somebody's heart along the way
You can look back and say
You did okay
You were loved

So remember to tell that special one
You are loved
You are loved
You are loved
You are loved
