The New Pabst Painting, The Mystery of Brewing
17 days have passed, and some major changes have happened!
1) I've decided I want to be a public historian when I grow older* A public historian can work in museums (like the Pabst Mansion), in archives (like the State Historical/Hysterical Society in Madison), in private consulting firms (doing research) and for the government (all of the above and more). Someone majoring in museum studies learns all aspects of the museum work, but not the critical historian thinking of crazies like me. I'm very excited to have a career goal in mind and am re-working the courses to follow it. Where will I get a job in the end? Not sure, but I figure I can always work at Per Mar and Pabst until I find a position that is totally ME.

2) I'm never growing up, although I will grow older. Let's face it, I love Disney movies, Chuck E. Cheese, and coloring books way too much to give them up. Bubbles fascinate me. Harry Potter, Twilight, Charlie Bone, and other "children's" books are often better-written than adult ones. Tweeny-bop music like the Jonas Brothers always pull me out of a depressive funk, with their smooth harmonies and rock-out lyrics. So although my body may grow physically older (or flucutate, as in the case of my WiiAge), my spirit will always remain young.
3) New painting at the Pabst - Miller Brewery is donating a painting back to the Mansion in time for the Captain's 173rd birthday.

Two Paintings Reunited At Pabst Mansion

MILWAUKEE -- A historic painting has found its way back to its old home.
Cherubs and the Mystery of Brewing is an 11 feet wide, 5 1/2 feet tall painting.
In the painting "the cherubs are doing the different activities that go along with the process of brewing beer," Dave Herrewig, MillerCoors archivist said.
It was one of two paintings commissioned by the beer baron Captain Frederick Pabst in 1893 which both later hung in his office.
"About 20 years ago, the murals were separated," Herrewig said.
The other mural was bought at an auction a few years ago but the cherubs painting turned up in an unsuspecting place.
"It came from the old Tumwater Brewery out in Olympia, Washington. It was found there rolled up in the rafters," said Herrewig.
The painting was brought to Milwaukee and restored. It was displayed at the MillerCoors headquarters for the past seven years.
Now, MillerCoors has donated the painting to the Pabst Mansion.
WISN 12 reporter Patrick Paolantonio said, "Moving a painting this big is tricky. It's too large for the staircase and too large for the elevator. So the only way to get it out is with a crane."
There was an attempt to move the painting on Wednesday but that came to a halt when the wind picked up.
A day later, when the conditions were just right the crane was able to lift the painting within minutes and whisk it away to the mansion, for a reunion that historians thought would never happen.
"It's quite remarkable that after both murals were on opposite coasts for a while, they're actually going back to the same building," said John Easterberg, senior historian at Pabst Mansion.
While the murals used to hang together in Captain Pabst's office, they will now be on separate floors in the mansion.
The public will be allowed to view the painting on Saturday morning.
No one would put a dollar value on the painting, only saying that it carries a lot of sentimental value.

4) Papers papers papers! So much schoolwork to do, so little time!
5) Nearing Easter - Next weekend is Palm Sunday and I will be at home with the family for a day or two before our big family Easter celebration. Exact location TBA. I gave up pork and beef for Lent, so I'm totally looking forward to an Easter ham or roast!
6) Happy Birthday Captain Pabst! Like I said before, it would be his 173rd birthday (Born March 28th, 1836), if he were still alive. We shall celebrate with cupcakes at the mansion tomorrow. Sadly, it is also supposed to snow sometime tomorrow too!
7) NEW ZEALAND .. the biggest happening of the time period would be our decision to take a family vacay to NZ this May. Matt, Mom and I will be heading out shortly after school ends here at Marquette and will fly back shortly after Mom's birthday. Since it is our first family vacation (and vacation-vacation, not a working-spring break trip or a long weekend to Ohio) in 9 years, we are all anxiously looking forward to take-off. The pets will be boarded in Dodgeville and we are all adjusting work schedules to accomodate. I can't WAIT!!!!!!
Well, I have a first-year class at Marquette this afternoon and Per Mar tonight. Will write more when I know more!
