Alissa's Mom's doing well in recovery. For the last 3 days, family has been constantly visiting her in her hospital room and learning how to take care of her. I generally duck in and out. For the past two nights, Alissa has stayed here in the apartment on the living room couch, which is much nicer than the chair in the hospital. I didn't sit in the chair, but it looked too firm for my taste. Yesterday morning Alissa took me out to Red Oak Grill in Union South for breakfast. She took a shower here and washed some clothes before we went on the bus out to the hospital. We were an hour late for the transplant class, so we sat in the room for awhile until I had to leave for work (one of the plot lines of the soap opera on TV was the guy cheated on girl A with ex-girlfriend B and now ex-girlfriend B is moving in with guy because she's pregnant and it's his responsability to take care of the baby. However, girl A is "the most wonderful thing that's ever happened to him" but cheated kinda because he and girl A weren't "offically" dating. Girl A knows what's up - he's still in love with B. What drama!) Work was great..except for the part where I accidentally kinda quietly insulted the organizer (she didn't hear it), Alissa called 3 times (always when my boss was around...), we ran out of bottled water so Taffy brought some on her way to working at Carson's, the sheer hotness of the day, and I got sunburnt to boot. At least we got out early. Then I got dressed in my sticky clothes (because I had booked it to work from home and the shirt was still soaked in sweat) to go to the Union, but I could've gone home for a bit and showered since most people didn't arrive until after 9:30PM. Fun times. Alissa and I left early with the intention of getting some sleep, but when the roomies invited us out to Perkins for a midnight snack (we left at 12AM too!), we couldn't pass up the chance for strawberry pie and part of a strawberry shake (me) and glazed carrots and breakfast potatoes (Alissa). Good times. Home and in bed by 1:30AM. Had some REM sleep in the less than 5 hours I got in. I know...it was a great dream that woke me up. Today I must get Alissa to the bus stop by 8:30AM so that I can get to work at 9AM. I'll probably work upstairs in the dishroom for part of the shift. Woo hoo. At least I'm not going to go over 40hrs now because we got done an hour early last night. And I've got tomorrow off!!!

Alissa's Mom
Alissa's mom has had kidney problems for a while now. She was going to get one from her sister, Kay, in August, but last night at 11PM she got the news that if she came down by 2AM there'd be a kidney for her. So she came down. Alissa found out this morning after she had charged her phone and found a billion messages on the voicemail. I myself got a 7AM phone call. She still hasn't left Viroqua yet, but her boss gave her the week off so she can be here in Madison with her mom. Her mom went into surgery shortly before 9AM today. If all goes well, she'll be able to leave the hospital in 5-7 days. Please pray for her.

Late work = no sleep
I'm a morning person. I've told my boss that I'm a morning person. I'd rather work @ 6AM. THis week I've got three shifts that end @ 11PM. I've been going to bed around 12AM, but I won't be able to do that if I'm still awake from work. I do lots of stuff in the mornings. Now I guess I'll be sleeping in. I've got lots of hours this week -- good news for me! I hope to pay off my credit card and possibly an unsubsidized loan from last summer. And save. Because today I'm going to be handing in my application for England. And filling out the one for Ireland, just in case. I only have one more piece of info to gather, and it's from Matt :( Silly boy. Oh well. Lots of fun here in Madison. I worked on lots of picnic carts on Friday (grumble, grumble...they are big and annoying....and $25 a PERSON!!).
Saturday I spent with Mom, Matt, Carmen, and Taffy at the zoo. It was Feast with the Beasts. Basically, you pay to get in (we were considered a "family" and saved $10 admission price!) and then there are lots of vendors that sell food that you can buy with all of the profits going to the zoo. There's Jamba Juice, Milio's Subs, a few of the carts normally on State St., and Glass Nickel Pizza to name a few. Matt and Carmen ran off for a quick run through while Mom, Taffy, and I took our time to feed the goats, watch the seals, walk through the monkey house, and talk to "Ed", the friendly pelican that I named. He was so close to the fence you could reach out and touch him. Unlike most of the other stressed animals, he seemed to be enjoying all of the attention and people. Mom kept trying to get Taffy to trip the people on stilts while I had silly pictures taken which I hope to post this weekend when I head home for Kathy's baby shower. Hehehehe....lots of fun! Saturday night Taffy and I cleaned the apartment. We scrubbed floors, washed the couch cover, beat out the rugs, threw the kitchen one in the wash, vaccumed, dusted, and eventually crashed. Taffy made egg rolls for dinner which were even better than the ones you get from carry-out! They were pretty healthy too with lots of fresh veggies and chicken and some soy sauce. We want to figure out if you can bake them instead of frying them....hmmmmm.... I also whipped out Mom's sewing machine at about 10PM. I had to go online to figure out how to thread the bobbin and how to wind the bobbin. It works now. And I had two pillows finished before heading to bed.
Sunday I went to work while Taffy continued cleaning. She wiped down surfaces, including windows and the mirrors! I made dinner while Taffy was at work. I need to work on my noodle-cooking skills, because some of the noodles in the F. Alfredo (with mushrooms and fresh broccoli) weren't done. Ooops. I also sewed up 4 more pillows (which will be finished when I get stuffing and finishing thread). Then I touched up on some of the cleaning we had done, like all the little threads that had fallen on our clean couch cover and the newly-vaccumed living room floor. Two of the three absent roommates returned at about 8PM, both needing to finish writing papers. I really don't miss classes, because I was able to watch a movie instead. I went to bed at 11PM, so I could be bright and cheery on this very long day.
Poor Heidi, the third absent roommate, had her wisdom teeth taken out last Thursday. Unfortunantly, one of them had grown weirdly (under her jaw?), which caused her a lot of pain and some dry sockets after the operation. She had an emergency doctor's appointment over the weekend. Hopefully she'll come back soon and feel better even sooner.
Well today I think I'm going to finish off that application, get it copied somewhere, hand it in at Bascom, go to the bank for quarters and some loan consolidation advice, and come back here for lunch and a nap. Lots of love, Christi and Oscar (still happily annoying the other fish)
