I just walked from my apartment on 20th down to the AMU Union on 13th, then to the Public library on 8th St. Then I went back to the History department on 12th. All of it in a light, misty rain that soaked my coat and bottoms of my pants. And rain expected all next week too. Reminds me of Ireland...
I'm still ill. They have now closed a 5th Milwaukee school as some of the students may be carriers of this flu. Of course lots of children are hit by diseases, the sweet little germ-infested huggers and sharers of the world. This "swine flu" (or, as the pork industry would like it referred to: H1N1 virus)is quickly becoming a epidemic of epic proportions, but mostly because people are afraid of it and taking precautionary measures, like hording the anti-virals. Between that and the flooding we have and will continue to have, I think that's like, two signs of the apocalypse or something. Now we just need locusts.
Well, back to the paper. No flu can stop this deadline from coming due!

WITI-TV, MILWAUKEE - The City of Milwaukee Health Department has identified its first two probably cases in a nationwide outbreak of swine flu. The include one adult and one child.
Health officials have also identified a number of children who have symptoms related to swine flu. They attend several Milwaukee Public Schools. For this reason, the city is closing the following schools temporarily...
- Mitchell St. Elementary School, 1728 S. 23rd St. (Huh, not too far from where I live, but not too close either)
- Riverside High School, 1615 E. Locust
- Clement Ave. Elementary School, 3666 S. Clement Ave.
- Rogers St. Academy, 2430 W. Rogers
One other probable case of swine flu was also identified in Adams County in central Wisconsin.
Symptoms for swine flu come in the form of fever, headache, tiredness, dry cough, sore throat, nasal congestion, and body aches.
"Local and state public health officials are investigating the circumstances of all three of these cases," State Health Officer Seth Foldy said at a news conference late Wednesday. "This should not be a surprise at this point. We've been anticipating and planning for something like this."
Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett said he didn't want to alarm residents, but he decided to go ahead and release limited details in the interest of public safety since a number of children had symptoms consistent with swine flu and were linked to the probable cases.
"Because I'm concerned about children being exposed to this, because we think there is a relationship between the children who has shown symptoms at these four schools, the prudent action is at least through the weekend, we've decided, the commissioner has decided, is these schools should be closed," Barrett said.
The Centers for Disease Control has determined that this swine influenza A (H1N1) virus is contagious and is spreading from human to human.

So Much To Do
Hello,
I've got a few moments before now and class to let you know what the latest goings on are.
First of all I'm ill. I don't think it is that "swine" flu going around (on TV this morning, they asked that we not call it that because you can't get it from eating pork, but I can't remember the official term). On TV they recommended anyone who had flu-like symptoms to get checked out by a doc just in case. I know a couple of school in Chicago are having flu outbreaks and I did work for Per Mar on Saturday night. It would be really easy to pick something up from a patron. Anyway, I have an appointment to see the clinic on Friday (first time open, go fig) so I'm really counting on the fact that it isn't that type of flu or I'm in big trouble.
Secondly, Matt turned 25 on Monday. He spent the night with his new gf Megan. Dad called me to send birthday greetings to Matt, which I did. Sounds like a low-key day for him. Sadly, not so much for me, because I lost my debit card some time between Sunday night and Monday morning, so I can't access my account via card until the new one shows up. I hope it makes it before the trip!
End of school is in full swing. Got a 25 page paper due next Wednesday and another large one due on Thursday. Also, have to make corrections to the one for Friday. And me sick and only wanting to sleep!
I did sleep last night after we got back from the Brewer's game. Time Warner Cable, as a sponsor of the Brewers, offered cheap tickets to subscribers like me. So I got the grad students from the History dept to go to a game. I bought Klement's brats (the official brats of the Brewers) and it turns out that with them we were able to win the Klements pre-game tailgate contest! We got free hats and t-shirts and were on the jumbotron during the first inning. How awesome!
Well, must get back to typing up notes for today's presentation. I'd rather be at home in bed...again. 8 days until my b-day and end of school, 13 until the trip!
